Mixed Martial Arts Star Urijah Faber’s Sister Critically Injured in Car Accident

Michaella Tastad, teenage sister of nationally renowned mixed martial arts star Urijah Faber, is in a coma following a car accident that occurred on Black Friday.

According to police reports, Tastad, 19, was driving home from Black Friday shopping around 3 a.m. when she rear-ended a vehicle that was slowing down to avoid another car accident that had already occurred. Three more cars subsequently collided with her and one another in succession. Three people were taken to the hospital but only Tastad suffered serious injuries.

Reportedly, Tastad suffered severe head trauma along with a collapsed lung, damage to her spleen and other injuries. She is currently in a medically-induced coma at Sutter Roseville Medical Center in Sacramento County. Part of her skull was removed and a shunt was inserted in her to drain fluid and reduce pressure on her brain. A friend who was with her in the car was briefly hospitalized with minor injuries but has since been released.

A student at Sierra College, Tastad lives next door to her famous brother Faber and assists him in managing his hectic schedule. Faber currently fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight division. Both doctors and family members are hopeful that young Michaella will be able to make a full recovery from her injuries. Police have not yet issued a determination as to whether anyone was at fault in causing the accident.

While fortunately, no one was killed in this serious car accident, Ms. Tastad certainly faces a long road to recovery. She may likely be hospitalized for weeks or even months and have to undergo additional surgeries and physical therapy. Hopefully, she will be able to reestablish the same quality of life that she had before the accident.
